James has traveled to many places and has valuable experiences that make each journey memorable. He has visited the Mediterranean, the Baltic Sea, Russia, Eastern Europe, and the Americas. Leading with professionalism and charm, he and his wife, Jessie, strive to make your Stay Salty adventures unforgettable. Beyond the sea, James enjoys wing foiling, fishing, spearfishing, kayaking, and mountain treks, always eager for the next expedition.
CHIEF MATE GABRIEL
Riël calls the breathtaking Victoria Bay, South Africa, his home — a haven for surfers. Sports have always played a big role in his life, with surfing and spearfishing becoming his expertise early on. Not just the ocean, but the mountains call to him as well, leading to many adventures in hiking and climbing. After graduating, Riël pursued a career in the yachting industry, quickly working towards his goal of becoming a Captain. Known for his positive attitude and readiness to help others, Riël embodies the joy of living with nature.
CHIEF ENGINEER GREGORY
Greg’s journey began under the sunny skies and sandy beaches of Jamaica, molding the innovative engineer he is today. After honing his skills at the Caribbean Maritime University, Greg found his calling in the world of yachting. His travels have taken him around the globe, introducing him to cultures and faces that have enriched his life. Greg joined Stay Salty crew in July and has become the driving force behind our successful journeys. He faces challenges with a positive attitude and believes no problem is insurmountable. Every day with Greg is exciting and enjoyable.
CHIEF STEWARDESS KIRSTEN
Kirsten’s journey from Port Elizabeth to the international seas paints a vivid picture of dedication and adventure. With a background in events and marketing carved out over six years in sports marketing and hospitality for high-profile South African clients, her skills were further honed as she led events and weddings at a celebrated 5-star wine estate in Stellenbosch. This foundation paved her way into the exciting world of yachting, opening doors to global travels and cultural exchanges. Kirsten, who cherishes her time outdoors, often finds solace on her family farm back in South Africa. She takes pride in her high standards and friendly welcome, excited to make your trip on the M/Y Stay Salty memorable.
CHEF TRACY-JANE
Tracy-Jane, a celebrated South African chef, brings 16 years of yachting industry prowess to her kitchen. From childhood, her enthusiasm for cooking was ignited in her grandma’s farm kitchen. Post high school, Tracy-Jane honed her skills with a degree in Hospitality Management and a diploma in culinary arts from a renowned Gordon Bleu Chef School. Her culinary philosophy? Weave together flavors, textures, and seasonal ingredients to craft exquisite dishes. Outside of the kitchen, she enjoys a lively lifestyle, reading cookbooks, hiking, and taking photos. She also aims to climb the 7 highest mountains.
SECOND STEWARDESS HOLLY
Kia Ora! Meet Holly from Mangawhai, New Zealand, a small town famous for its waves and warmth. Growing up, Holly spent much of her time competing in equestrian events across Australia and New Zealand. After high school, she moved to California to teach children how to ride horses at a mountain ranch. With 3 years in the yachting industry under her belt, Holly has held prestigious positions in various sectors. When she’s not working, you can find her riding horses, exploring trails, or surfing with loved ones. Holly is excited to bring her skills back to the Stay Salty program, making sure your time on board is memorable.
THIRD STEWARDESS/MASSEUSE KENDALL
Kendal grew up in South Africa, moving from Durban to Johannesburg. She loves the ocean and has happy memories of beach vacations. Her journey in health and wellness is marked by dedication and a passion for living positively. Kendal now enters the yachting world, where her energy and smile are as continuous as the waves she loves. Join her as she embraces this new chapter, ready to spread happiness on the sea.
DECKHAND SAM
Sam’s love for adventure began in a small South African town near the Drakensberg mountains and the Indian Ocean. After school, he dived into adventures as a walking guide on the Wild Coast and embraced the frozen landscapes of Antarctica twice. Sam is a keen fisherman on the Wild Coast. He joined the Stay Salty team for adventure and now helps out with enthusiasm and versatility every day.
