The British Virgin Islands are the perfect place to experience a crewed yacht charter and if you have never been, you need to consider it! Known as Natures little secrets, the BVI has crystal clear waters, lush green volcanic landscapes, and is home to amazing beaches, world class snorkeling and famous beach bars. Whether you like to bar hop, hike, snorkel, partake in water sports or relax in the sun, the BVI has something for everyone. The territory is made up of over 60 Islands and cays each offering their own unique attractions.
Consistently warm weather, constant trade winds and many beautiful sheltered anchorages make the BVI truly the yachting paradise of the Caribbean. Crewed yacht charters run between November and July with temperatures consistently ranging from mid 70s to mid 80s.
Here are some of the many things you can do while exploring these beautiful islands.
Soggy Dollar – Jost Van Dyke
Named Soggy Dollar because you swim into the beach from your yacht and pay for your drink with your soggy dollars. Probably the most famous beach bar in the world! The famous cocktail, served thousands of times a day, is the Painkiller made with dark rum,
pineapple, orange and coconut, finished with freshly grated nutmeg. The bar is located in White Bay on Jost Van Dyke and as the name suggests it is a pristine white sandy bay with beautiful clear waters. Other beach bars also line this pretty bay including Ivans Stress Free Bar, frequented by Kenny Chesney, and Hendos Hideout which is perfect for a cheese burger or fish tacos. Soggy Dollar also has a great store to buy your Soggy dollar hat or t-shirt.
Anegada
Anegada is the BVI’s coral atoll; the only island that is not formed from volcanic activity. It is home to the largest barrier coral reef in the Caribbean and the fourth largest on Earth! This laid back island is home to only 450 residents this is like a Caribbean island from years past. The locals are friendly and
welcoming and are so proud to show you their wonderful pristine island.
Rent a scooter or mini moke or jump on the back of an open-air taxi to take you to some of the most remote beautiful beaches in the BVI. Snorkel the barrier reef, kite surf in the shallow waters on the northern beaches, visit the flamingo pond or spend the afternoon at Tipsy Beach bar. You can also pay a local guide to take you to see the conch shell island or take you to the flats to bone fish. Finish the day with a fresh lobster dinner cooked on an open BBQ at one of the many restaurants that line the anchorage.
The Baths – Virgin Gorda
This is one of the main attractions in the BVI. The Baths are made up of a vast field of volcanic boulders which house tidal pools, tunnels, grottos, and arches. The batholiths were formed during the Tertiary period (65 million to 2.5 million
years ago) by the molten rock under immense pressure, seeping up into existing volcanic rock layers under the young Caribbean Sea. Jump from the rocks, hike up to the top for amazing views, snorkel among ancient boulders, and laze on the pretty beaches.
Norman Island
The island’s main anchorage known as “The Bight” is a large protected bay perfect for an overnight stop. Another famous bar called Willy T is located here; a pirate themed floating bar where patrons can jump off into the warm waters. In nearby Privateer Bay the
water is very calm in perfect conditions for water sports including kneeboarding, wakeboarding, water skiing, and tubing. There are quite a few hiking trails to explore with spectacular views across the water to neighbouring islands.
The Caves, located just around the corner, are a great snorkelling spot and known for hidden pirate treasure. Across from here you can take the dingy to the Indians which are large pinnacles of rock emerging from the water. This is one of the best snorkel spots in the BVI with plenty of fish and vibrant coral.
North Sound
This area is regularly frequented by super yachts and is a playground for the rich and famous. Close by is Sir Richard Bransons Necker Island and Eustatia Island, owned by Google co Founder, Larry Page. Visit the tiny resort island of Saba Rock for a cocktail with daily
tarpon feeding at happy hour. Bitter End Yacht Club has a marina to dock for the night along with restaurants, bars and a boutique to get your Bitter End Yacht Club souvenirs. Leverick Bay also has a marina, beach bar, grocery store and a Pussers Rum boutique. Here you can expect a weekly BBQ with Jumbie dancers on a Friday night throughout the season and on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (November – May) enjoy the Michael Beans pirate show which is great fun for both adults and the kids.
Heartfelt thank you all for fulfilling our dream vacation. We truly had the most amazing time - the food was over the top-the drinks were absolutely the best!!! - Captain, you guided with grace, laughter to some of the best locations in the world!
